Ketosis is King

Sustainable weight loss is all about the science of losing fat while you maintain muscle.

How many of you want to “lose weight”? I bet most of you. So, let me ask you this. What is more important to you: seeing that number on the scale go down, or losing fat while sparing muscle? I'd say most of you want to see the number go down. That's nice, but trust me, it’s not about the number on the scale. It’s about losing fat! We want you to melt away the fat on your body. We want your body to be a fat-burning machine which in turn will spare your muscle, and that is what will result in sustained weight loss! Woahhhh! How?

Get your body into ketosis.

You may be wondering what exactly ketosis is. Don't worry, I'll explain that in a moment. Let's talk about your pancreas and insulin quickly. Everyone's pancreas produces the hormone insulin. If the body produces too much insulin (by eating too many carbs, sugar, and processed foods) your pancreas will have lots of insulin bursts. This might not sound too bad but, guess what? It is. When the body is overloaded with high sugar food (and remember All carbs turn into glucose (blood sugar), too much insulin is produced. It will store and lock this as fat (especially around the waistline). And let's be truthful here; nobody likes added fat to their waistline. So, you ask, what do we do about it?

Keep your body in ketosis.

Ketosis means the body is burning its own fat as an energy source and transforming fat into ketone bodies. These ketones are energy molecules in the blood that have been synthesized in the liver from the fatty acids and fats we eat which then become fuel for the brain. And how do we get these ketone bodies flowing through our system? You must reset your pancreas and lower your insulin level. In order to do this, you need to restrict your carbohydrate, increase your protein intake (to the correct amount for your body), and follow a few other guidelines. Basically, less carbs = lower level of insulin = ketone production = ketosis = lean body. And this is exactly what we do with our clients at Bon Vie. We help reset your system from glucose-burning to fat-burning in order to lose the fat, keep the lean, and keep it off for life!

To quote Gary Taubes, author of Why We Get Fat, “Once in ketosis the brain and nervous system run way more efficiently on the ketone bodies than it ever will on glucose”. Now, doesn't that sound nice?
